Mr. Liang Shugen, Consul General of the Chinese Consulate General in Cape Town, hosted a reception to mark the 64th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China on 26 September 2013 at the Table Bay Hotel of Cape Town.

 

 

About 170 people attended the event, including Mr. Cecil Valentine Burgess—South Africa National Assembly Chairperson of Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence, Mr. Sisa Njikelana—South Africa National Assembly Chairperson of Portfolio Committee on Energy, Mr. Dan Plato—Minister of Community Safety of the Western Cape, Mr. Albert Fritz—Minister of Social Development of the Western Cape, Mr. Ian Neilson—Executive Deputy Mayor of Cape Town city, Ms. Zukiswa Ncitha—Executive Mayor of Buffalo City, Ms. Agnes Ntlhangula—Executive Mayor of Kimberly City and other MPs and officials from the National Assembly, the provincial and municipal government of the Eastern Cape, Northern Cape and Western Cape, the Consular Crops as well as representatives from the local universities, businesses and the Chinese community.

 

 

Mr. Liang Shugen made a speech to brief the guests on the achievements that China made in the past 64 years. He also told the guests that now the Chinese people are striving to realize the “ Chinese Dream”—that is the building of China into a strong country, the revitalization of the Chinese nation and a better life of Chinese People.

 

 

Mr. Cecil Valentine Burgess said the Chinese people are striving to realize the Chinese Dream and the people of South Africa also have their own national development plan. The great achievements of China’s reform and opening up in the past more than 30 years is the precious experience that South Africa can learn from and it is also a spiritual encouragement for South Africa people.

 

 

Mr. Ian Neilson also delivered a speech. He congratulated China’s achievements in the past years and thanked the Chinese enterprises and local Chinese for the contributions to Cape Town’s economic development and the diversified culture.
