On 26th September, Mr. Liang Shugen, Consul General in Cape Town hosted a reception at Table Bay Hotel in celebration of the 65th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Mr. Cedrick Frolick, House Chairperson of the National Assembly, Ms. Mmamoloko Kubayi, Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Telecommunications and Postal Services of the National Assembly, Ms. Sharna Fernandez, Speaker of Western Cape Provincial Parliament, Ms. Debbie Shäfer, Minister of Education of Western Cape, Lieutenant General Arno Lamoer, Western Cape Provincial Commissoner of SAPS, Mr. Ian Neilson, Executive Deputy Mayor of City of Cape Town, Mr. Charles Standers, Executive Mayor of George, Councillor Thembinkosi Mafana, Portfolio Chairperson of Safety and Security of Nelson Mandela Bay attended the reception as guests of honor.

Consul General Liang Shugen reviewed in his remarks great achievements China has made during the past 65 years, especially since 1978 when China started the “reform and opening up” policy. He emphasized that China, as the second largest economy in the world, will continue to make constructive contributions to the world economy as well as world peace. Mr. Liang highly praised the development of China-South Africa relations. He emphasized that the bilateral relations are closer than ever thanks to comprehensive cooperations between the two countries. He also expressed sympathy and condolences over the loss of lives of South African citizens in the building-collapse tragedy happened in Nigeria.

In their remarks, Mr. Cedrick Frolick and Mr. Ian Neilson extended their congratulations to China on the great successes China has achieved. They look forward to the robust relationship between China and South Africa, now are both members of BRICS, growing even stronger, bringing concrete benefit to the South African people and the Chinese people.

About 300 guests from the National Assembly, provincial and municipal governments of the Eastern, Northern and Western Cape Provinces, the Consular Crops in Cape Town as well as local universities, business and the Chinese community, attended the reception.
