The Consulate held reception for Chinese New Year and Assumption Office by Consul General Kang Yong

 

On 20th January, the Chinese Consulate General in Cape Town held reception in celebration of Chinese New Year as well as for assumption of office by Consul General Kang Yong. Hon. Mr. Solomon Lechesa Tsenoli, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon Ms Joanmariae Louise Fubbs,Chairperson of Portfolio Committee on Trade and Industry of the National Assembly, Hon Dr Ivan Meyer, Minister for Finance of Western Cape Provincial Government, Hon Mr Albert Fritz, Minister for Social Development of Western Cape Provincial Government, Alderman Ian Neilson, Executive Deputy Mayor of the City of Cape Town attended the reception, together with more than 200 guests from local government, business, academia and Chinese community. 

 

Consul General Kang Yong

Consul General Kang extended his Chinese New Year's greetings to all of guests. He spoke highly of China-South Africa relationship which is enjoying its historical height and still maintaining strong momentum. He highlighted the recent successful visit to South Africa by Chinese President Xi Jinping and the FOCAC Johannesburg Summit co-hosted by two Presidents of China and South Africa, saying they are milestones for China-South Africa and China-Africa relations. Mr. Kang also hailed the Year of China in South Africa which was carried out throughout South African nine provinces. He believed that with current favorable momentum, he is fully confident in the future of china-South Africa relations and fulfillment of his duty as Consul General in Cape Town.

Mr. Kang thanked the South African government and society for receiving tens of thousands of Chinese nationals as their community members. He praised the contribution the local Chinese Community has made to the society not only in economic sense but also in community building and charities. The most recent example is the 2 million-rand China House completed and donated by Chinese community in Cape Town to the Baphumelele Orphanage at Philippi in Cape Town.

Deputy Speaker Tsenoli expressed his satisfaction and confidence over the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and South Africa. He praised the efforts made by both countries in promoting the robust bilateral relationship and pledged to further broaden exchanges and deeper cooperation between China and South Africa.

Chairperson Fubbs and Alderman Ian Neilson expressed their confidence in China's economy and social development, emphasizing the need for further exchange and cooperation. They appreciated the positive roles played by Chinese community and conveyed their best Chinese New Year wishes.
