On 12th Feb, Mr. Dan Plato, Minister for Community Safety of Western Cape Provincial Government visited Mrs Chen, whose husband was shot dead in an armed robbery on 6th Feb at Malmesbury.

Mr. Plato expressed his deep condolences to Mrs. Chen for her tragic loss. He said that he himself as well as the Western Cape Government will provide necessary assistance to help Mrs. Chen and the family to get over the difficult time.

The Minister told Mrs. Chen that, as soon as he was informed of the tragedy by Chinese Consulate General in Cape Town, he discussed the case with SAPS Provincial Commissioner of Western Cape and the Station Commander of SAPS Malmesbury, where the murder case happened. He ensured Mrs. Chen that every effort will be taken to bring those murders to justice at early time.

Mrs. Chen thanked Minister Plato for his visit at such difficult time of the family. She also indicated that in the past year, situation of community safety around Cape Town has been deteriorating. The death of her husband is another one tragedy among many. She urged Minister Plato and authority to take concrete measures to combat crimes and rebuild people’s confidence over their safety environment .
