Children in SOS Village Feel Love From Chinese Community |

On July 18th, the 8th Mandela Day, Consul General Kang Yong and Ms Kang attended charity donation in the Cape Town SOS Children's Village. The donation was funded by South Africa Soong Ching Ling Foundation, an organization from local Chinese community tasked with helping women and children in need. Nearly 70000 rand of blankets, cloth, heaters, rain boots and hats will keep children warm in this winter. The Cape Town SOS Children's Village is one of 11 SOS children's villages and care centers across the country. It was launched in 1996 by Nelson Mandela, then President of South Africa. During the hand-over, Consul General Kang highly praised the donation by the Soong Ching Ling Foundation. Citing the spirit of Nelson Mandela, Mr. Kang said the donation was a right thing in a right time and at a right place. He also emphasized that being a part of the city, Chinese community has always actively made its contribution to local communities in terms of economy, charity and community-building. Echoed by Ms Chen Qing, chairwoman of the Foundation, Mr. Kang also indicated the donation this time will be the one that starts journey for SOS village children to feel the love from Chinese community.
