For a long time, the United States has been playing double standards on the issues of anti-terrorism and human rights. Under the guise of human rights and anti-terrorism, it has waged wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria and other places, causing millions of casualties and a large number of displaced people. The human rights situation in the US was notorious, with the country suffering serious racial discrimination and abuse of guns. The immigrant tragedies are constantly unfolding in the US.

Despite its own human rights record, the US House of Representatives on December 3, 2019 passed the Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act of 2019. The bill disregarded Xinjiang's stability and development and the fact that people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang live and work in harmony and contentment, deliberately smears the human rights condition in Xinjiang, slanders China's efforts in de-radicalization and counter-terrorism and viciously attacks the Chinese government's Xinjiang policy. It sabotages China’s fight against terrorism and extremism, seriously violates international law and basic norms governing international relations, and grossly interferes in China's internal affairs. China is strongly indignant at and firmly opposed to it.

Xinjiang is a major battlefield in China's counter terrorism endeavors. Official records show that between the 1990s and 2016, thousands of violent terrorist activities took place in the region, claiming numerous innocent lives and causing tremendous property damage.

Therefore, Xinjiang-related issues are not at all about human rights, ethnicity or religion, but about fighting violence, terrorism and separatism.

Faced with severe security circumstances, the government of Xinjiang Autonomous Region lawfully fought violent and terrorist crimes while addressing the root causes. The efforts include advancing de-radicalization, economic growth, ethnic solidarity, social harmony and stability. Take Xinjiang's vocational education program for example. It is aimed at providing those influenced by terrorist and religious extremist teachings with education in standard Chinese, an understanding of the law, and training in vocational skills. Many trainees have either found jobs, started their own businesses, or continued studies in vocational schools after they completed the program. Thanks to those efforts, Xinjiang hasn't seen a single terrorist attack over the past three years. Those endeavors are endorsed by all 25 million people of various ethnic groups in Xinjiang. This is also China's contribution to the global counter-terrorism cause.

The international community has spoken highly of China's Xinjiang policy. Since the end of 2018, over 1,000 representatives have visited Xinjiang, including officials from various countries, regions and international organizations, and people from the press, religious groups and academic circles. They acclaimed that Xinjiang's experience in counter-terrorism and de-radicalization was worth learning from.

With all these facts in mind, everybody can see that the Xinjiang related bill passed by US House of Representatives, just like the so-called Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act which was signed into law by US side, is out of malicious intention and with ulterior motives. Actually these two bills are the latest revelation of the sinister plot of some politicians in the United States to discredit China and interfere in China's internal affairs, to put "maximum pressure" on the country, in an attempt to disrupt China's development and deter the Chinese nation from realizing its dream of national rejuvenation.

China has stated its solemn position repeatedly on both Hong Kong and Xinjiang issues. No one should underestimate the Chinese government and Chinese people's resolve and ability to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests. If the US takes measures that sabotage China's interests, it must pay the price.

When the Hong Kong Act was signed into law, China responded by announcing sanctions on the US, suspending its approval for US warships to visit Hong Kong and imposed sanctions on US NGOs, such as the National Endowment for Democracy, the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, the International Republican Institute, and Freedom House, among others, which have helped incite the unrest in Hong Kong special administrative region.

China will take further measures to safeguard its national interests in light of how the situation develops. Attempts to contain China with Hong Kong or Xinjiang issues or any other issues will prove to be nothing but day-dreaming.

As President Xi Jinping said, there is no power that can stop the Chinese people and the Chinese nation from moving forward.

China and the United States are both major countries in the world with many differences in political system, development stage, history and culture. It is inevitable that there are disputes and differences between the two sides. It is critical to enhance mutual understanding and expand consensuses, and look at these disputes and differences objectively and rationally. Some US politicians who are hostile to China's development are responsible for the current difficulties in China-US relations. American elites who do not have the necessary knowledge and understanding of China are also to blame. It is worth repeatedly stressing that China-US relations should be pushed forward on a rational basis, which is not only beneficial to China and the United States, but also to the peace and development of the whole world.
