At his first news conference as US president, Biden told reporters that"This is a battle between the utility of democracies in the 21st century and autocracies. We've got to prove democracy works." when he introduced his policy on competing with China.

It is natural to come up with a question from Biden's vague interpretation that when and why democracy of United States seems to stop working.

According to a very conservative estimate by Brown university, since 2001, the United States has launched or participated wars in Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia, Iraq, Libya and Syria respectively, causing millions of civilians died and thirty-seven million people becoming refugees or displaced, which is more than those displaced by any other war or disaster since at least the start of the twentieth century with the sole exception of WWII.

In the past year, the United States, home to less than 5 percent of the world's population, accounted for more than a quarter of the world's confirmed COVID-19 cases and nearly one-fifth of the global deaths from the disease. More than 500,000 Americans lost their lives due to the virus.

Domestically, ethnic minority groups in the United States suffered systematic racial discrimination and were in a difficult situation. People of color made up about one-third of all minors under the age of 18, but two-thirds of all of the country's imprisoned minors. Asian Americans were being suffered rampant racist attacks and xenophobic violence, African Americans are three times as likely as whites to be infected with the coronavirus, twice as likely to die from COVID-19, and three times as likely to be killed by the police.

For too long, the US has been styling itself deceptively as an exemplary model of human rights protection and obsessed with lecturing others on democracy, but facts in the past have proved that it is neither qualified nor capable of doing so. Earlier this year, when the UN Human Rights Council was reviewing the report on the US, over 110 countries criticized the US on its human rights issues, asking the US to take concrete measures to solve systemic problems such as discrimination against minority groups.

The glory of self-claimed beacon of democracy had long been dispelled by history and iron-clad facts. More worrying is that with deep-rooted cold war ideology and zero-sum mindset , the US is using concept of democracy as "weapons " to attack its rivals and "anti-democracy " labels as autocracy, human rights violations, religious discrimination and forced labor and so on are being arbitrarily pinned on any countries who threaten its hegemony and supremacy.

From its political propaganda of "genocide" in Xinjiang to its blatant incitement to the separatists in Hong Kong, US government together with a handful of western allies fluently exercised tricks of democracy weaponization and mobilized their dominant medias to hype their conspiracy theories and spread lies about China. However, these attempts are doomed to be futile in face of Xinjiang's unprecedented prosperity and the patriotic passion of vast majority of citizens of Hong Kong. Any people with insights will easily tell what US cares is never the interests of local people but its own hegemonic power.

Democracy is one of the achievements of human development and should be marked by ensuring that power belongs to the people in the form of legislation. Pursuing a people-centered vision on human rights, the Chinese government puts life front and center and spare no effort to protect people's lives, value and dignity. More than 850 million people were lifted from poverty through development while giving full consideration to reality. By letting those in need play the principal role, and gathering collective strength, the socialism with Chinese characteristics led by CPC has been proved to be the right development path that suits its national conditions and enhances democracy.

As is well known, the United States and major Western countries formulated most of the rules of world after WWII. Trying to manipulate the rules of the game to ensure they always win is customary practice to maintain their hegemony and contain developing countries' development. It is clear to see why the US controversially pulled out UN Human Rights Council, UNESCO, Paris treatment and more international organizations or treaties it used to be one of initial signers.

The world's peace and development today depends on the UN-centered international order and basic norms governing international relations with the UN Charter as its cornerstone rather than is manipulated by hypocritical democracy theory of few western countries.

A more democratic world calls for more voices from developing countries. There is no unified standard for democratic model, true democracy must be rooted in the local soil and serve the people and the legitimate right of sovereign states to independently choose their development path should be fully respected.

In the new era of globalization, intervention in the internal affairs of sovereign states under the pretext of "promoting democracy" has no market. All countries can learn from each other and work together to promote greater democracy in international relations, uphold the common values of peace, development, fairness, justice, democracy and freedom for all mankind, and jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind that transcends differences in systems and civilizations.
