I.The nature and the prospective applicants of the passport of the Hongkong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China

The passport of the Hongkong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China is one category of the passport of the People's Republic of China, valid for travel to all countries and regions in the world. It is stated on the passport that the bearer is entitled to return to the Hongkong Special Administrative Region. According to Article 154 of "the Basic Law of Hongkong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China", those entitled to apply for the abovementioned passport are Chinese citizens who hold permanent identity cards of Hongkong.

 

II. The Authority responsible for the issuance of the passport of the Hongkong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China.

According to Article 154 of "the Basic Law of the Hongkong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China", the Central Government shall authorize the Government of the Hongkong Special Administrative Region to issue, in accordance with law, passports of the Hongkong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. The particular authority responsible for the issuance of the passport of the Hongkong Special Administrative Region of the People' Republic of China is the Immigration Department of the Hongkong Special Administrative Region. In addition, according to inernational practice, Chinese diplomatic and consular missions in foreign countries of other Chinese representative offices abroad, authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, shall have the authority, subject to strict regulations and meticulous arrangements, to issue the passport of the Hongkong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China.

 

III. The Validity period of the passport of the Hongkong Special Administrative Region of the People's republic of China

The validity period of passport of the Hongkong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China is ten years. The passport has no Accompanying Children Page. Passports issued to those under the age of sixteen shall be valid for five years.

 

IV. The type and printing technology of the passport of the Hongkong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China

1. The passport's full name is "中华人民共和国香港特别行政区护照" in Chinese and "Passport, Hongkong Special Administrative Region, People's Republic of China" in English.

2. The passport is 125mm by 88mm in size, contains 32(ordinary type) or 48(extra type) pages. The passport is done in the two languages of unsimplified Chinese and English.

3. The passport has a dark-blue soft cover, on the front of which are printed gilded emblem of the People's Republic of China and the gilded full name of the passport in both Chinese and English.

4. The paper of the inner pages was specially made for the passport. On each page there is a watermark of Great Wall design and a radiant pattern of bauhinia printed in rainbow-like blue and orange.

5. The inside front cover of the passport carries a message of request. The first and the second pages are notes of the passport in Chinese and English respectively. The third and the fourth are observation pages. The fifth to the thirty-first (or forty-seventh for the extra type) are visa pages. The thirty-second (of forty-eighth for the extra type) contains information for emergency and signature of the bearer. The inside back cover contains the bearer's personal information.

6. When issuing the passport, photo-printing technology by computer will be used for bearer's photograph. On the plastic film of the current specimen there will be a bar code added between the two small bauhinia which will be canceled at issuance.

7. When issuing the passport, the bearer's name in Chinese Commercial Code and identity card number will be printed on observation page.

8. When issuing the passport, the layout of the bearer's personal information on the inside cover will be as follows:

Surname and Given names: There will be tow lines respectively, upper lines in Chinese, lower lines in English.

Nationality: "CHINESE" will be preprinted during manufacture.

Sex: In English abbreviation, "M" for male and "F" for female.

Place of birth: If born in China, print the Chinese phonetic spelling of the name of the Chinese provincial-level administrative region. If born abroad, print the country name in English.

Issued by: "香港特别行政区入境事务处" and "IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENT,HONGKONG SPECIAL ADMINISTRATIVE REGION" will be preprinted during manufacture. Those issued by the Chinese diplomatic and consular missions in foreign countries or other Chinese representative offices abroad authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs shall contain a note on the observation page.

Date of birth, date of issued and date of expiry will be arranged in the order of date in Arabic numerals, month in English abbreviation and year in Arabic numerals.

9. The passport of the Hongkong Special Administrative region of the People's Republic of China is machine readable. The design of bearer's personal information page is in accordance with the form recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organization. The Machine Readable Zone is at the lower part of the inside back cover.
