Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of Shandong Provincial People's Congress Mr. SHAO Guifang Visited Western Cape Province

 

From August 29 to 31, the Shandong goodwill delegation, led by Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of Shandong Provincial People's Congress Mr. SHAO Guifang, visited Western Cape Province. Mr. Shao held meetings respectively with the Speaker of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament Mr. Shaun Byneveldt, the Atcing Premier Mr. Leonard Ramatlakane (MEC for Community Safety), and MEC for Education Mr. Cameron Dugmore.

Mr. Shao and the Speaker Mr. Shaun Byneveldt reviewed the cooperation progress made in trade, educational and cultural exchanges, poverty alleviation and community safety since the establishment of the sister province relationship. Mr. Shao stressed that Shandong Provincial People's Congress should further strengthen the exchanges and cooperation with the Western Cape Provincial Parliament for enhancement of friendly relations. He also proposed to deepen the understanding of the younger generation through art troupe exchanges. Mr. Bynelvedt agreed with Mr. Shao's proposal, and reiterated that Western Cape Province attached great importance to the friendly cooperation with Shandong Province and planed to promote cooperation with Shandong in tourism and agriculture.

Mr. Shao also had in-depth discussion with the Acting Premier and MEC for Education on arrangements for Premier Mr Abrahim Rasool's visit to Shandong, joint celebration for the 10th anniversary of the establishment of sister-province relationship, training program in aquaculture, and recruiting Chinese mathematics teachers in Western Cape Province. 

On the morning of 30th August, the delegation visited the Center for Chinese Studies in the Stellenbosch University, and enjoyed the banquet hosted by the Speaker Mr. Byneveldt at the evening.

Mr. SHI Weiqiang, Consul General of the P.R. China in Cape Town, participated in the above functions.
