|Consul General Kang Yong wrote to SAPS Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Jula|
Lt Gen Khombinkosi Jula
Provincial Commissioner of Western Cape
South African Police Services
Dear Commissioner Jula,
I hope this letter finds you well.
I’d like to draw your attention to a recent case of armed robbery and highjack targeting at a Chinese citizen (CAS417/08/2017). By the time I wrote to you, the victim has already returned to his home sound and safe. On behalf of the local Chinese community, I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to the prompt response and brave behavior of the local SAPS in rescuing the Chinese man.
It happened in an early afternoon on Saturday, August 26, 2017. When Mr. WU Zhimin, a Chinese businessman and community leader, was waiting for the traffic lights at the crossing of M24 and Hanover Park Avenue in Cape Town, two “disguised beggars” approached his Toyota quantum, suddenly took out their guns and forced Mr. Wu to drive to the direction of Philipi. Fortunately, the crime scene was seen by passengers nearby and was reported to the police immediately. In just a few minutes, the flying squad was dispatched and police patrol was enforced in affected area. In less than one hour, the police cars from different directions chased the hijacked vehicle to a stop near Intsebenziswano Senior Secondary School. The perpetrators were deterred and fled away in panic and another innocent life was saved.
Mr. WU and the Chinese community were most grateful to the police officers who participated in the rescue work. They believe the criminals won’t find a place to hide and will be brought to justice in an earlier date.
Again, please accept my sincere gratitude to you and your staff for your efforts in making people feel safe in the Province of Western Cape.
