Chui Sai On elected Chief Executive of Macao SAR

BEIJING, July 26 -- Sunday, the only candidate Chui Sai On won the election of the third Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region.

Of the total 296 valid votes cast by 297 members of the 300-strong Chief Executive Election Committee, Chui won 282 ballots.

The election was held at the Macao East Asian Games Dome. According to Macao SAR Basic Law, the Chief Executive is elected by Chief Executive Election Committee.

At a press conference after the election, Chui said he felt pleased to be elected, and will spare no effort to build a better Macao.

Chui told reporters that he will start to form his new administration soon.

He still needs China's central government's approval and appointment to officially become the new Chief Executive of the Macao SAR.

The term of the incumbent Chief Executive Ho Hau Wah will end December 19 this year, after which the new Chief Executive will begin his five-year term.
