|Chinese Vice Premier stresses development of rural arts to enrich farmers' spiritual lives|
BEIJING, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu Wednesday called for more efforts to promote the development of the arts in rural areas to ensure a rich spiritual life for the nation's farmers.
"The creativity of our nation's farmers and civilian artists has never been as vigorous as it is now as new art works emerge," Hui said while visiting a rural arts and crafts show as part of the first China Farmer Art Festival.
Hui said the festival reflects a new image of the nation's farmers and agricultural fields.
He called upon various departments to "actively" promote the development of rural arts to enrich farmers' spiritual life.
The six-day event that started Wednesday includes performances and arts, crafts and photography exhibitions.
The festival is being jointly held by the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Culture and the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles.
